Organic Grain Free Apple Pie with Walnut Streusel

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring and tasteless. Now I wouldn’t recommend eating sweet treats on a regular basis but it’s comforting to know you can still satisfy your sweet tooth without using ingredients that’ll cause distress in your body.

The smell of this pie will bring delight while baking and as always I only share recipes that all your family and friends will enjoy!

Organic Grain Free Apple Pie with Walnut Streusel

Delicious warm or cold apple pie.

Ingredients

  • 1 grain free pie crust

  • Apple Filling:

  • 5-6 organic Granny Smith apples

  • 1/2 cup organic grade A pure maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp organic tapioca flour

  • juice of 1 organic lemon

  • 1-1 1/2 tsp organic ground cinnamon

  • Walnut Streusel:

  • 4 tbsp softened organic grass fed butter

  • 3 tbsp organic grade A pure maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp organic tapioca flour

  • 1/2 cup organic walnuts

  • 1/2 tsp organic ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Prepare dough for the crust
  • While dough is chilling in the refrigerator prepare the apple filling.
  • Wash apples. Once washed, peel, cut and dice apples into approximately 1/2 by 1/2 inch pieces.
  • Placed diced apples into a bowl along with the remaining ingredients for the apple filling (maple syrup, tapioca flour, lemon juice, cinnamon) and mix all ingredients together.
  • Once you have your raw dough for your crust rolled out and in your pie plate pour apple filling onto your raw dough.
  • Place pie on the middle rack in the oven and bake for 1 hour.
  • Next place all the ingredients for the streusel into a bowl a stir together until completely incorporated.
  • Take pie out of the oven and crumble streusel toping over the top of your apple filling breaking up any large clumps.
  • Place the pie back in the oven for an additional 30 minutes or until crust is golden and filling is bubbling.
  • Once pie is done, remove from the oven and allow to slightly cool. Serve warm with/or without vanilla ice cream. Store left over pie in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
